The relationship between Bryan and his grandfather will melt the heart of every grandparent. The family values which are portrayed in simple childlike ways are models for successful living. The illustrations are truly works of art! All are original, and were created especially for this book.
I Wanna Fly!
"I climbed high to get above the Zeroes, but at high altitude the P-40 was no match for the Zero. The bombers dropped their bombs, and I gave chase. Thoughts of family came to my mind—I was a young man with a young family, and I didn't want to see this enemy hurt my family. I was a trained fighter pilot and the army taught me discipline, toughness, honor, patriotism, many things my parents had taught me. I thought about all this as I prepared to shoot down the enemy.
I flew underneath the formation and fired into the belly of one of the bombers."

"Bryan, take your hat off before we pray." his mother gently scolds. After obeying his mother, Bryan excitedly exclaims, "Daddy, I want to be a pilot, like Gramps."
His father had heard this before, yet he patiently explained, "Son, I know how you've always loved planes; most people are fascinated with them, but it takes a lot of hard work and discipline to be a pilot. You've heard your grandfather talk about the training he went through in the Aviation Cadet program. It was tough, but he says it made the best pilots." "Yeah, I wanna do that, Daddy," said Bryan.

"Gramps, Daddy said I can't be an aviation cadet like you, 'cause they don't do that anymore. But I wanna fly—I wanna go high in the sky," expressed Bryan as he flew his little airplane. "Did you wanna fly when you were a little boy like me?"
"I sure did, Boy," was his grandfather's reply. Bryan liked it when he called him "Boy", he always had. "More than anything," his grandfather continued. "And that's what it takes. Why, when I was in training to be a pilot, it was so hard to make it through, that a lot of guys washed out—didn't make it."
