First visit to your site. Really enjoyed it and find it fascinating that there are so many cadets out there still "slipping the surly bonds"; at least in their memories. I was a cadet in class 59-C; Lackland, Hondo, and Greenville. Flew F-86Fs in gunnery school. Instructed at Laredo for 4 years; then flew the F-4 at MacDill and then for a year in Vietnam. Errol, I plan to get your book real soon and look forward to meeting you at the museum before too long.

Hi All, Here's some information from the ArmyAirforces website... 'The MUGU guestbook e-mail farming effort/guestbook spammer There are many ways to waste time on the Internet. At first blush, one of the strangest would appear to be what I call the MUGU Guestbook Spammer. A google search for "mugu mugu" will reveal hundreds and hundreds of entries in web site guestbooks all across the Internet, all from "Mugu" of "mugu@mugu.com*" or other nonsense addresses. The postings are always inane; "i dey here", "i don land here", "guymen keep off", etc. Sometimes "Mugu" will post as being from Lome, Togo. So what is "Mugu" up to? Take in to consideration the Africa connection, and the nature of web site guest books, and you have what I suspect to be an extensive e-mail address farming effort. A farming effort being described as the collection of the e-mail addresses used by posters in the site's guestbook. To what purpose you ask? I believe the purpose is for those moronic 419 or Nigerian scam letters we all enjoy. The scammers have to gather addresses to send these things to, and "Mugu" is most likely gathering them. For whatever reason, "Mugu" feels compelled to make an entry in each web site guestbook. Perhaps it is a marker to other 419/Nigerian scammers that the particular guestbook has been recently exploited. It is certainly a taunt, as Nigerians use the word "mugu" to refer to "fools or gullible persons", and the term is being used in some quarters as slang referring to the Nigerian/419 scammers. What to do? You can delete the entries, as I do, but rest assured that "Mugu" will be back. So my suggestion is to make your guestbook audience aware of 419/Nigerian scams, especially if "Mugu" is a frequent visitor. This assessment is my own, but I believe it to be valid and worth your consideration. -Scott Burris, ArmyAirForces.com * It has been pointed out that "mugu.com" is the home a vile set of racist web sites. While one source theorized that the Mugu guestbook spamming effort may be an attempt to vilify mugu.com (as if it needs it), I suspect our 419/Nigerian scammers know nothing of the real mugu.com. However, the "Mugu" posters have IP's that originate from African web service providers or from Amsterdam - all origin points for 419/Nigerian scam letters.' [Back to ArmyAirForces]

I'm am trying to find info on my step dad, Clifton E. Burge. I know he was an Air Force pilot in the forties and later was grounded because of ear problems and then taught. He was in the Korean War, I think. He was stationed at many bases all over the states and overseas. He was killed in Homestead, Fl. in July of 1969. Since I am not considered a blood relative I can't find out any information on his dealth or service record. My "real" father and mother were divorced when I was around six months old and shortly after she married my step dad. My step dad was a father to me and I grew up loving him and calling him Daddy. The "real" father never bothered to stay in touch. Years ago I thought I might be the true daughter of my step dad, but never had time to give any effort to looking into the possibility. Now I need to know and I want to know how he died, why, etc. If there is anyone that has any information on Clifton Eugene Burge please contact me at my email address. Thank you.

Class 55-J. Had a great time reading all the notes from former cadets. Can't understand why it took so long for me to hear of this project. Many thanks to all those who are responsible. I think most of us that went through the cadet program look back on it as one of the highlights of our lives. I know that coming from a small town in the late 40s and early 50s with no television, it was a real adventure. It was interesting to read some comments about pre-cadets. I wonder how many other guys were talked into enlisting before their class date came up by their local recuiter with the idea of going into pre-cadets. Needless to say, nobody at Lackland in '53 knew about any such program and as a matter of fact the TI was irate as he just thought I was trying to get out of basic training. What an introduction to the Air Force - I was on his list for the next 9 weeks. Oh well, it made pre-flight much easier when I finally got there. I remember how disapointed I was to be assigned to Hondo-by-the-sea after Lackland, and how it turned out to be 6 of the best months of my life, (thanks Mr. Morrow.) Anybody else remember Category U?, unfortunately the Air Force career went south after Bryan. Hope there is someone else out there that went through in 55-J, would enjoy reminiscing.

My father, Ralph Edward Niece, Capt. (Ret.) (Dec.), was an instructor pilot at Chatham or Hunter AFBs (Savannah, GA.), in April, 1945. I think, from my research, that it was probably RTU training, given the timeframe. At the time of VJ day, he had been given a B-24 and crew and was at Walla Walla, WA, awaiting assignment to the Pacific Theatre, probably as a replacement. My mother and father, were bitterly divorced almost 50 years ago and, as a result, I have no service records at all. I would like to hear from anyone who could help me reconstruct my father's service.

Thanks for your efforts to honor and remember those in the "Greatest Generation" who gave so much. My dad, Lt. Harry Strahlendorf earned his silver wings and commission in Class 43-H at Randolph Field, Texas on August 30, 1943. Ironically, this was one year to the day of my birth. Dad was assigned as an original pilot with the 404th Squadron, 371st Fighter Group, 9th Air Force. Their steed was the best fighter of the war, the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt. Sadly, dad was lost on his 48th mission over Cherbourg on 24 June 1944 while attacking a German gun position. I was born two months later. Today, on the site of his crash in Octeville, a park has been named in his memory. A beautiful monument tells the story of that day when he made his sacrifice. The Norman people will never forget what our young heroes did for their freedom. Thanks for listening... I love to tell folks about my hero father, a man I never met, but whom I love deeply and admire for his sacrifice and courage.

Greetings to the Aviation Cadets of US Air Force. I am First Lieutenant Augusto N Padua, an active officer-pilot of the Philippine Air Force and a member of (probably) the only surviving Aviation Cadet program in the world... the Aviation Cadet Program of the Philippine Air Force Flying School, Class 96. Recently, last 03 May 2003, Class 2005 was received at Fernando Air Base, Lipa City, Batangas, Philippines and this proves that though we have had many setbacks (no Aviation Cadet procurement since 1997), WE ARE SURVIVING. True...only the BEST can be Aviation Cadets. And though we may be apart by half the globe, I believe we share the same ideals. In fact, the only two airmen-recipients of the highest award given to any soldier of the Armed Forces of the Philippines(AFP), the Medal of Valor, are Aviation Cadets, they are the late Colonel Jesus Villamor and the Late Major Danilo Atienza. Further, most airforce bases in this country were named after Aviation Cadets. I really do have more to say to you, Gentlemen, but I guess I will have to reserve them for next time. I wish you all the best and my highest regards, fellow Aviation Cadets!

What an interesting Site! I graduated from Lubbock, TX twin engine school in class 44-E after completing Primary at Gibbs Field in Fort Stockton and basic at Goodfellow in San Angelo. I was assigned to the navigation cadet training base at San Marco TX after getting my wings and spent one year there flying AT-7 navigation trainers. It was great duty and a wonderful experience. The AT-7 was a great little aircraft. I eventually was assigned to Hendricks Field, Florida and completed B-17 training. in August of 1945. I was on orders assigning me to Maxwell Field for B-29 school when the bomb was dropped over Nagasaki and soon after, my military career ended. I often wished that I had stayed in the AAF as I loved flying.

55 H - Lackland AFB TX --Bainbridge GA -- Laredo TX. Classbook with pictures "Clear Above" Under picture "Osmosis" MDAP -- RDAF. After Laredo went back to RDN where I came from in the first place.Liked the Navy a lot better. Not to pick on flying , mind you --would do it all again.Like to hear from anyone who was at those places in 1953 to 1955.Was on the T-33 when I left at my request. Had no problems flying or medicals.Took issue with the way the upperclass abused power.I forgive you now fellas --allmost.--The BOOK of regulations was never given to me in the first place.Marriage was out ? Not to ride on or drive a Motorcycle (too dangerous?)After endless "Tours" in the HOT sun in scandinavian woollen uniform (no sunshades allowed),thanks to a couple of sadistic Cadet officers.(Lords of Dicipline)It was time to return to my roots.Am very grateful to the good people I met in the USA 99.9% of all I met.I shall keep an eye on the Guestbook for classmates and instructors. The flying training part was first class---Thanks.

Errol: I just scanned the web site. What an ambitious and worthwhile endeavor. Our prayers are with you as you seek to teach those who will come after, learn to appreciate and experience the wonderful heritage and freedom we enjoy because of the sacrifice of so many. I enjoyed visiting on the phone with you and exchange thoughts and ideas about your heartfelt dream. The timing is very interesting, as I have been accumulating files about aviation art and cloud studies within the last month. I will look forward to hearing and reading more about the Silver Wings Field and the progress of the museum. Respectfully Jack E. Dawson

What a great site! My late father was an AVCAD during WWII, and ended the war at the Matagorda Island Gunnery Range that I think was attached to Foster Field, TX. His name was Mervin K. "Red" Flowers and from what I can figure, he was a Warrant Officer when discharged in 1944. My uncle was also an AVCAD, commissioned as a pilot and sent to Fort Ord, CA, ready to be shipped out. The war ended before my uncle saw combat. My uncle's name is Max Owens. My uncle Max was great pals with an Englishman named Tim(othy) Knowles. I'd would certainly appreciate hearing from anyone who remembers these guys - Mervin K. "Red" Flowers, Max Owens and Tim Knowles. Thanks!!

A member of the Atlanta Chapter of Silver Wings was killed last week in a car wreck. Lance R. Bell, In WWII he flew 63 missions in B-25 and A-20. He would say the thing he would like to be rememberd for no body but close friends knew about. In a dare from crew members and friends, he flew an A-20 under the Eiffel Tower, and got away with it. 60-14N. This is Frank Leuck, Colonel USAF (Retired). I joined class 60-14N at Lackland AFB in August 1959, then went to Harlingen and graduated in August 1960. I was accepted into Electronic Warfare Training at Keesler, followed by an assignment to B-52s at Sheppard AFB, TX. In 1966 I was accepted into UPT with class 67G at Vance AFB, OK. After finishing UPT I stayed in the training command and as an IP at Reese AFB, TX. I went to VN as a FAC/ALO and after several assignments as commander and HQ staff weenie, I retired in 1982 from AFMPC. I've been a business owner ever since and now live just outside Olympia, WA: an empty nester, great workshop, living the good life. I'll always remember my days as an AvCad and grateful I went that way. Would love to hear from any other classmates. leufrank@ldsliving.com. Good Luck to all.

My Father is Jack L Spencer & I came across picture of his entire class of 44E, Aircrew Detachment, Kent Ohio. He passed away in 6/96 but I felt he should be mentioned here, he would have loved this site. He went on from there to Flight training in Randolph, and flew out of Kelly, and heard him mention Okla. and Lincoln, Neb. a lot. There is 2 complete boxes of "Memories" for me to go through but for now will just say he was a Good looking, Cocky B-25 Pilot and Instructor. If you knew him you would surly remember. His memories recalled flying a B-25H with nose art of "Betty Boop". I have not been able to find anything on this AC as I don't have a tail #. I would love to hear from anyone remembering my Dad. I was in SAC myself 58 to 62 but this site is not about me. A Great site honoring some very deserving boys! I will hand deliver my membership and donation in person in the very near future. Thank You!

My step-mother has given me two annuals from class 43H basic flying school in Garden City, KS, and advanced flying school at Eagle Pass, Tx. Her uncle William "Blink" Vincent was a cadet from that class and left her with the annuals. I fly in Navy P3 Orions so she figured I might be interested in them. I am actually more interested in giving them a home with a unit that may be a derivative of the WWII Army flight training program, or someone who may have been associated with 43H in some manner. If anyone has info on program archives or was involved with 43H, please email me.

I was an aviation cadet in class 57-10 at Harlingen AFB, as a New York Air National Guard member. I stayed in the Guard and Reserves until retirement in 1985. I flew as a navigator in F94s at NAS New York (Floyd Bennett Field), C47s at Mitchell AFB, C119s at Floyd Bennett and also at Stewart AFB, C124s here at Carswell AFB and C141s at Charleston AFB. I look back fondly on my days as a cadet, but I'm sure at the time I hated it. It seems I spent too much time on the tour ramp. Actually, I was innocent and a helpless target for the Tac officers.

Navigator Class 57-22G-Commissioned December 13, 1957. Sorry to be so long getting to the site, which is truly amazing. What a stroll through the past! I saw Bob Worn's sign-in message and career history. Let me echo what so many A/C's say: Going through cadets was a great experience and I am proud to have been a part of it. I got married four days after graduation, went to RIO school in Waco, then to Hamilton AFB (F-89 & F-101) and then on to Oxnard AFB (F-89 & F-101). I always wanted to go to pilot school(never could)and resigned after 4 years and 6 months of active duty (in 1961) to pursue my college degree and life in the civilian lane. I retired after 30 years of government service (National Credit Union Administration) and then have been working at Robins Federal Credit Union (Robins AFB, GA) for the past 5 years. I have seen and talked to Larry Ellis, who was in 58-A I believe. He works for a CU in the midwest. Thanks for the memories.

George Schanback is my dad! He is now 81 years young and he is just as tough as ever. He recently had a stroke about 2 months ago and he is battling back with good progress. He does not have full moment back in his left arm but is getting there. My mom, Jeanne passed away about 3 years ago. He lives with his dog, Bo, and my sister Bobbie lives near him and helps him out when needed. He mentioned that he might be attending some aviation reunion, but I did not get all the details. You can find his phone number in the Mexico, Beach directory in Florida. I am sure he would welcome any and all correspondence. I have always had alot of respect for my father although I recognize that he is no saint. I am alot like him but have some considerable differences. He is a very complex man and does not bend when it comes to his standards of morality. I pray for him and just hope he and I get to know each other better before either of us pass on. I have many fond memories of him and, yet, he is losing his memory and it hurts a bit when a memory of mine he cannot remember. We once went hunting in Marianna, Florida and we were surprised by some birds taking off in front of us and we both fired a bit late and missed. I sort of butted my 16 guage shotgun against my cheek and caught a good brusie. I have told this story to many over the years and yet he does not even remember the incident. Oh well, the main thing is that I do and it was a cool father/son outing. We had others over sports and Las Vegas and camping. I hope you get in touch with him and have some more good times. 58-E became 58-G eventually (wx and holdovers). Lackland- Graham-Bryan. Busted in final phase of formation, but logged 2000 hours in civilian sector later. Had a mini reunion with Loring Astorino, Glen Atwell and Jack Pasalevich, old friends and my heroes. Wish I could have done it with them.. Oh, yes, almost forgot. Had cadet OOD duty one night with "The Shadow"..Later I flipped him a left handed salute on a sidewalk somewhere and spent 12 hours on the ramp. He was too weird.

You don't have to be an Aviation Cadet to enjoy this site. I'm an author of books, magazine articles, and a newspaper column about the Air Force. I couldn't qualify to fly in the Air Force because of a hearing defect, a situation that did not prevent me from having an Air Force job listening to radios. My latest book is "Air Force One." a book about the current presidential aircraft and also a history of presidential air travel. I have several opportunities coming up to talk about "Air Force One" on television, including C-Span's book TV. For current writing projects, I am looking for anyone with experience (of any kind) in the P-38 Lightning, plus anyone involved in B-29 Superfortress operations in the Korean War. I'm at (703) 264-8950 in northern Virginia.

Still wondering if somebody from Class 44-C (Dorr Field, FLA) is around. As I'm researching the Feb 23 1945 crash of 363 FS/357 FG 2LT Richard Wallace Taylor (KIA) in my village, I have pictures from all the squadrons/instructors from his Class. Richard ('Dick') graduated at Craig field on March 12 1944. Class 64-08D2. Hicky was right! This site is long overdue. Go you sons of delta...

Congratulations! This Web Site is important to a lot of us old timers. There are as many different stories as there are the survivors of those 1940-1945 days. I entered with 200 other 18 year olds in April 1944. We took the psycomotive tests at Keesler Field, Miss. and 7 of us survived to be named as cadets. We were sent to Bainbridge AAFB, Ga. to await Preflight at Maxwell Field, Ala. but we waited until Aug. 1945 and went back home in Oct. '45 feeling pretty low having done nothing but KP and picking up cigarette butts for 18 months. How about the rest of you that never went anyplace. Does that still bug you too?

I'm a VietNam Veteran's widow. My husband's name was S.S.G. Vernon Black. He passed away at Reynolds Army Hospital at Ft. Sill, OK. Any kind of information that might help me get a copy of his records at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, In or St. Louis, Missouri, would help our kids and grandkids learn more about him. All I want to do, is to keep my husband alive for our kids and grandkids. Thank you for your time. It's a good thing to have a guestbook for people to sign. People who read them, maybe able to help someone one day. Willene M. Black, Pineville, KY
